Itinerary

Day 1

Upon arrival at the Tribhuwan International Airport in Kathmandu, you will be welcomed by Summit Force’s representative and transferred to your hotel. Today is simply an arrival day and there will be no organized activities. So, you will have some free time to explore the local attractions. Stay overnight in a hotel
Day 2

Today we will organize guided sightseeing in the Kathmandu Valley, where you will visit UNESCO-listed World Heritage sites including the sacred Hindu temple, Buddhist shrines, and local bazaars in Kathmandu, Lalitpur, and Bhaktapur. In the meantime, we will prepare all necessary permits for the climb and trek, we want to make sure you are well-equipped with the necessary trekking/ climbing gear and clothing.
Also, we want to make sure whether your travel insurance covers up to above 6000 meters, as you will be scaling the summit of Sherson Peak-5 at an altitude of 6432m. Stay overnight in a hotel
Day 3

After having breakfast at the hotel, we will take you to Tribhuvan International Airport's Domestic Terminal for your flight to Tumlingtar. The 45-minute flight will land you in the beautiful town of Tumlingtar. From there, we will drive to Num village (1560m) via. Khandbari on the same day. We will hire a vehicle to take you to Num. The road with blacktop is smooth for the first forty-five minutes while heading towards Khandbari.
There are several bumps in the off-road route between Khandbari and Num. It takes around 4 to 5 hours to reach Num. Perched atop a hillside with views from both sides of the hill is the charming town of Num.
You will see a glistening view of the mountain range, including Kanchenjunga and Jannu Peak. Here, you may enjoy the dawn or sunset. Overnight stay at a lodge in Num.
Day 4

Following a nourishing breakfast, you will walk a steep downhill from the western end of the village for around 800 meters to the Arun River through a lush forest of Schima, Chestnut, and Pine. While traversing, you will also see a cardamom plantation inside the forest. You will hike across the Arun River suspension bridge and then make a sharp upward climb to Seduwa.
The weather might be hot and humid but the trail is quite shaded by the forest. Today you will enter the Makalu Barun National Park and register your permit at the entry point.
You will have lunch on the way as there are no tea houses before Seduwa. You will enjoy the beautiful landscape of Arun Valley and the surrounding ridges. At the end of the day, take comfort at a lodge in Seduwa. Relax, have a substantial meal, and tell other travelers about your exciting hiking experiences of the day.
Day 5

After having a hearty breakfast, you will begin today’s trek under the forest canopy passing through farmlands. The path is more pleasant with a smooth, moderate ascent than the previous day. On the way you will find tea shops in small villages-, Murmi Danda and Narbugaon, where you can stop for tea and snacks. Here, you will immerse yourself in the authentic rural life. After crossing a Rai settlement, you will pass a Chorten before reaching Tashigaon.
Take a break in a beautiful spot and enjoy your packed lunch while enjoying the peaceful beauty of the surroundings. After lunch ascend farther through the picturesque scenery, getting closer to Tashigaun with each step.
Get ready for the first jaw-dropping, expansive vistas of the Himalayas as soon as you arrive in Tashigaun. Enjoy a delightful dinner and stay overnight at a local lodge in Tashigaun
Day 6

After having a fulfilling breakfast in Tashigaun, you will start your trek to Khongma. Be prepared as today will be one of the most challenging but also rewarding days of your trek. You will be walking on steep trails at higher elevations, passing through dense forests, alongside a stream, and over a ridge, gradually revealing the tough terrain ahead. As the trail steepens, it will wind through grazing land, stone steps, and past serene lakes, testing your trekking skills.
During the trek, you will take a break to enjoy a packed lunch amidst the rugged beauty of the route. After lunch, you will gently ascend to the top of a ridge, where you can enjoy panoramic views. Khongma Danda, your destination for the day, will be just a short distance away. Set against the backdrop of the Chamlang Mountain, the hilltop provides a captivating panorama of the surrounding peaks. Stay in a local lodge at Khongma
Day 7

In the cool mountain air of Khongma, you will begin your day with a hearty breakfast as you get ready for further hiking across breathtaking scenery. After breakfast, you will set off on a picturesque trail from Khongma towards the foothill of Shipton Pass. Follow the undulating ridge through a Rhododendron Forest—an inspiring natural display of colors and scents. The trail ascends to Ghungru La, which offers expansive views. From this viewpoint, a little descent will take to a pristine lake and the Keke La pass.
Savor a well-deserved lunch while taking in the breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and the peace of the alpine environment. Today’s destination is the valley of Dobate, which you will reach after passing via the Keke La mountain. Experience the rugged beauty of the landscape as you move downward, offering a sense of achievement and connection with the Himalayan wilderness. Upon arrival at Dobate, check into a local lodge.
Day 8

Get up early in the morning, enjoy a wholesome breakfast, and get ready for a day that will bring both challenges and rewards. After breakfast, start a trek to Yangle Kharka, a day known for its difficulty and the promise of stunning scenery. The first two hours will be tough, testing your trekking skills and stamina. Keep pushing through the challenging climb, knowing that the day's rewards are waiting ahead. During the trek, take a well-deserved break and refuel with a packed lunch amidst the rugged terrain.
You will enjoy panoramic views as you catch your breath. After the demanding climb, the trail becomes more manageable, allowing you to gain altitude at a comfortable pace.
Traverse the landscape and take in the beauty of the Himalayan surroundings. You will reach Yangle Kharka at last. It will be a pleasant place to spend the night at the base of a valley.
Day 9

Today, we will embark on the trail to Langmale Kharka. We will hike through lush green grasslands and beautiful forests, taking in breathtaking views of the majestic mountain peaks of the Himalayan range.
The trail offers a wonderful experience for trekking enthusiasts as we pass through a stunning natural landscape. After a moderate walk through the valley, we will encounter yak pastures, dense forests, and boulder fields. At the beginning of the trek, we will be surrounded by towering valley walls. As we continue, we will reach langmale Kharka and fully appreciate the peaceful rural life in this high-altitude haven. We will notice a significant rise in the scenic Himalayan views.
Day 10

After having breakfast, we will be ready for the awe-inspiring trekking journey to Makalu Base Camp. Our trail will begin on a level area that gradually drops to a river. Traverse the varied landscape, soaking in the surroundings, As you cross the river, you will witness the terrain transforming before your eyes. The base camp, located on the western corner of the river provides an unrivaled vantage position to see the majesty of the Himalayan mountains.
As we walk ahead, we will be treated to breathtaking vistas of Makalu Mountain's southern region with every step. Baruntse, Makalu II, Chamlang, and Kali Himal are all visible from the base camp, which offers an amazing vista. Mount Makalu is seen more clearly as we get closer to Shershong. During the trek, you will enjoy the breathtaking beauty of these peaks, which perfectly encapsulate the spirit of the Himalayan environment. Check-in at a local lodge at Makalu Base Camp
Day 11

Today, you will reach your final destination of the trek, the Base Camp. Here, you will have the opportunity to explore a rocky, barren area that includes the expansive Barun Glacier. This vantage point offers breathtaking views of the magnificent south face of Mount Makalu, as well as a panoramic view of Everest and Lhotse. You can also take the opportunity to visit the surrounding lakes and glaciers, and even go on a short hike to Baruntse Base Camp for an extra adventure. You may also choose to celebrate your achievements at the base camp itself before spending the night at Makalu Base Camp.
Day 12

After leaving Makalu Base Camp, we will head east along the trail south of the Sherson Valley until we reach Sherson Base Camp at 5,235m. It is located near Merak and Sherlali. Though infrequently used, this path offers beautiful scenery. En route, you will enjoy the beautiful sights of Pyramid Peak, Peak 4, Chamlang, Sherson (Peak 3), and Peak 5.
Although Makalu is not visible yet, as you pass a ridge, the glacier starts to turn slightly north. We will set up our camp beside the southernmost and largest lake.
Day 13-16

After spending a couple of days shifting gear and fixing lines over short sections of ice, we will move to a high camp set up on a narrow ice shelf at 5,920m. The first pitch reveals a hidden crevasse, which we protect with a fixed rope. We then climb north up a ramp to reach the southwest ridge for a summit push. After reaching the summit, we will choose a considerably less steep slope to descend back to base camp.
Day 17

After having a great time at Sherson Base Camp, you will embark on the trail leading to your next destination- Tadohsha. You will enjoy walking through a beautiful landscape contemplating the beauty of the Himalayan surroundings. Today will be a moderate day of trekking following the trail you trekked earlier. You leave behind Makalu Base Camp, Langmale Kharka, Merek, and Yangle Kharka and stay at a lodge in Tadohsha after trekking for 6 to 7 hours. Lodge accommodation in Tadohsha offers a peaceful haven for the night.
Day 18

After breakfast at Dobato, we will begin our trek to Khongma through a forested trail surrounded by rhododendrons and fir trees. Today we will pass through four high mountain passes namely Keke La (4170m), Shipton La (4200m), Sano Pokhari Danda (4105m), and Khongma La (3890m). After a strenuous hike, you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic vistas of Makalu, Chamlang, and Kanchenjunga. It will be your final chance to see the fascinating sights of the soaring mountains.
Between Dobato to Khongma there will be no tea shops on the trail. So, we want to ensure you have enough food and water for the journey today.
Day 19

After breakfast at Dobato, we will begin our trek to Khongma through a forested trail surrounded by rhododendrons and fir trees. Today we will pass through four high mountain passes namely Keke La (4170m), Shipton La (4200m), Sano Pokhari Danda (4105m), and Khongma La (3890m). After a strenuous hike, you will be rewarded with breathtaking panoramic vistas of Makalu, Chamlang, and Kanchenjunga. It will be your final chance to see the fascinating sights of the soaring mountains. Between Dobato to Khongma there will be no tea shops on the trail. So, we want to ensure you have enough food and water for the journey today.
Day 20

Today, you will enjoy a pleasant but long 5-6 hour walk to Tashigaun. You will traverse a steep descent, passing through mani walls, bamboo, and rhododendron forests. The surrounding area is quite beautiful in its natural backdrop. Along the way, you will experience the traditional way of life and culture of the locals. You will also pass through beautiful rice and millet fields before finally reaching the picturesque Sherpa village of Tashigaun. Once there, you can check in at a local lodge.
Day 21

Today you will walk through the Makalu Barun National Park and descend to the Barun River. Then, ascend for a few hours and follow a forested trail, pass Sherpa villages and finally reach Num for an overnight stay
Day 22

After having breakfast, we will head to Khandbari through the settlements at the foothills and on the hillside, terraced hills, and green lush landscape until we reach Khandbari, a beautiful city in the Koshi zone in northeastern Nepal, and the district headquarters of Sankhuwasabha. Different indigenous ethnic groups of Nepal reside in this city. It is also famous for its cardamom farming
Day 23

Today is your last day on this trek. We will take a local jeep to Tumlingtar. Upon reaching Tumlingtar Airport, we will fly back to Kathmandu on the same day. You will be treated to stunning views as we fly over the majestic peaks and lush hills, with the flight lasting approximately 50 minutes. After arriving in Kathmandu, you will be taken to the hotel. After a relaxing break, you will have time for souvenir shopping and to visit nearby places around your hotel. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 24

It's your day off, so you can do whatever you want. In the evening, we will have a farewell dinner at a Nepali cultural restaurant where we can share our remarkable experiences from our adventure-filled journey with the crew. You will stay overnight in Kathmandu.
Day 25

The Sherson Peak Climbing adventure in Nepal comes to an end today. One of our SUMMIT FORCE representatives will escort you to the international airport approximately 3 hours before your flight schedule. For now, cherish the adventure in the Makalu region, a milestone of your life!

Trip Notes

Physical Fitness

High-Endurance Training: Prepare with a fitness regime that includes cardiovascular exercises, strength training, and endurance activities such as long-distance hiking, running, and stair climbing.

Technical Climbing Skills: Experience with ice and rock climbing, crevasse rescue, and using climbing equipment (crampons, ice axes, harnesses) is crucial. Consider taking a mountaineering course if necessary.


Acclimatization

Gradual Ascent: The itinerary is designed to allow for gradual acclimatization. Pay attention to your body’s response to altitude and take necessary rest days.

Hydration and Nutrition: Maintain high fluid intake and a nutritious diet to aid acclimatization. High-calorie snacks and meals are essential.


Weather Conditions

Seasonal Considerations: The best climbing seasons are pre-monsoon (April-May) and post-monsoon (September-October) when weather conditions are relatively stable.
