Overview

Manaslu Circuit Trek is considered one of the best treks in Nepal. It offers a two-week adventure into the relatively unexplored Manaslu region. While the Round Manaslu trek may not be well-known to all trekkers, the popularity of this region has been increasing in recent years. A springtime trek between March and April allows you to witness the beautiful blooming of rhododendron flowers throughout the forests in this remote area.

During the Manaslu Circuit trek, you will have the opportunity to immerse yourself in the unspoiled landscapes where traditional ways of life are still prevalent, and local communities maintain ancient customs and traditions. The region is home to various ethnic groups, including the Gurung, Magar, Tamang, and Bhotias (Tibetan), offering a rich cultural experience. Additionally, you will be treated to stunning views of the Ganesh and Manaslu Himalayan ranges amidst favorable weather conditions.

The trek to Manaslu Circuit commences with a picturesque drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola via Arughat, a journey that takes approximately 9 hours. From there, the trail follows the Budhi Gandaki river valley, passing by notable peaks such as Mt. Manaslu (8118 m), Mt. Himalchuli (7893m), and Peak 29 (7839 m), culminating in a crossing over the challenging Larkya La Pass (5106m).

The best seasons for the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal are the autumn (September to November) and spring (March to May) seasons. These months offer the most stable weather and clear visibility, making them ideal for trekking in the region. During these seasons, you can enjoy comfortable temperatures, lush landscapes, and stunning views of the Himalayas. It is important to note that winter (December to February) can be quite cold and snowy, while the monsoon season (June to August) brings heavy rainfall and increased risk of landslides, making trekking more challenging.

The Manaslu Circuit trek is one of the most spectacular treks in Nepal, offering a unique and less crowded trekking experience compared to some of the more popular routes like the Annapurna Circuit or Everest Base Camp.

Trip Highlights

Stunning Mountain Views: The trek offers breathtaking views of the towering Himalayan peaks, including Mount Manaslu (8,163m), the eighth highest mountain in the world, as well as other prominent peaks like Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal, and Ngadi Chuli.

Diverse Landscapes: The trek takes you through a diverse range of landscapes, from lush green forests to high-altitude alpine meadows, glacial moraines, and traditional Tibetan-style villages.

Rich Cultural Experience: The Manaslu region is home to a mix of Tibetan and Nepalese cultures, and you will have the opportunity to visit remote villages, monasteries, and interact with local communities along the way.

Challenging Mountain Passes: The trek includes crossing the challenging Larkya La pass (5,160m), which offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding mountains but requires good physical fitness and acclimatization.

Wildlife and Flora: The Manaslu Conservation Area is home to a variety of wildlife species, including the elusive snow leopard, Himalayan tahr, musk deer, and several species of birds and butterflies.

Off-the-Beaten-Path Experience: The Manaslu Circuit trek is a great option for those seeking a less crowded trekking experience away from the popular tourist routes, offering a sense of remoteness and tranquility.

Overall, the Manaslu round trek provides a unique opportunity to explore the natural beauty, rich culture, and rugged terrain of the Himalayas in a less-visited region of Nepal.

Our lunch spot is surrounded by breathtaking mountains scenery and it is also considered to be blue sheep territory as grazing is nearby on the barren hillsides. You will enjoy a more relaxed afternoon and be warm as you will definitely feel the cold and the altitude here. After lunch we will follow the southern route and continue our steady ascent to Dharamsala where we spend the night at a lodge.
Day 12

As today is a more difficult day to cross the Larkya La Pass (5,215 m), so we will begin our trek quite early morning. There is a lot of scree to climb and walk on the glacial moraine area. Leaving Dharamsala , we will head out to North side of the Larkya Glaciers from where we can enjoy the stunning views of Cho Danda and then of Larkya Peak. We go on trekking alongside glacial moraines and then begin our slow climb up to the Larkya La pass peak. A panoramic view of Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, Kang Guru, and Annapurna II can be seen from the summit. On the descent, the trail passes the top of the moraine to the west and follows steep and rough zigzags. Then we will cross the moraine and descend more gently to reach Bimtang.
Day 13

Today our trek will be relaxing as we walk to downhill through the rhododendron and pine forest. Just you need to be careful about getting your knees cramped. You will be heading to the narrow but beautiful cultivated land of Budhi Gandaki Valley.
