Overview

Annapurna Base Camp trekking, also known as Annapurna Sanctuary, is relatively a shorter and medium hard trek in the Annapurna region. It can be completed in 12 to 13 days depending on the itinerary and walking pace. Trekking begins through terraced rice paddies, beautiful rhododendron forests and finally we reach high altitude terrain. While trekking, we notice ever-changing sub-tropical landscape from rice fields, rhododendron and bamboo forests until we reach the glacier basin of Annapurna Sanctuary. Steep snow-clad ridges falling from Hiunchuli on the left and Machhapuchhere on the right form entrance to the Base Camp. As we pass through the 'entrance' and enter the Sanctuary, we find ourselves in a huge amphitheatre enclosed by a solid wall of snow-capped peaks and that’s a breathtaking experience.

The trail to Annapurna Base Camp meanders through the remote mountain settlements inhabited by different ethnic groups of people who have their own lifestyle and culture. While on trek, you can spend some time to interact with local people of different ethnicities & experience their culture and way of life.

The hike takes us into scenic valley, dense forest of rhododendron and Pine forests with majestic views of the snow-clad peaks in the background. The beauty of the snow- clad mountains is really hard to describe in words. The entire scenario of the region gives us the feeling of heaven on earth.

Annapurna Base Camp trek starts with a flight from Kathmandu to Pokhara and same day drive up to Landruk and from this trailhead the actual trek begins. ABC trek can be customized following different routes either through Annapurna Circuit or Jomsom / Muktinath, or Tatopani, Ghorepani and Tadapani and joining the main Sanctuary trails at Chommrong.

It is possible to do Annapurna Base Camp trek in all seasons. But, in winter the Base Camp is sometimes closed due to accumulation of snow. In spring time, the rhododendron forests are in full bloom which captivates every trekker along the trails.

Today is simply an arrival day with no scheduled activities, giving you some free time to explore the local attractions at your leisure. Enjoy your overnight stay at the hotel.
Day 2

Following breakfast, we will transfer you from the hotel to Kathmandu's domestic airport for a 30-minute flight to Pokhara. If the weather is clear, you'll enjoy spectacular mountain views from your window seat. Upon arrival in Pokhara, you'll be driven for approximately one and a half hours to Landruk, covering a distance of 54.3 km. In Landruk village, you will stay in a cozy teahouse with a homely atmosphere. From here, you can enjoy breathtaking views of the Annapurna Himalaya, including Annapurna III, Annapurna South, and Hiunchuli, weather permitting. Stay overnight at the teahouse.
Day 3

Leaving Landruk behind, you will begin your first day of trekking by descending and crossing a wooden bridge. The trail leads you through small bushes and forests along the bank of the Modi River, where you can enjoy beautiful scenery including views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, and waterfalls. After crossing the Modi River on a long suspension bridge, you will make an uphill climb and then follow a flat trail through bamboo trees. You will encounter another newly constructed suspension bridge, after which the trail descends, crosses the river, and ascends again to Jhinu Danda. The trek from Landruk to Jhinu Danda takes approximately 6-7 hours. At Jhinu Danda, you can relax in the soothing, warm waters of the natural hot springs.
Day 4

The trek from Jhinu Danda to Bamboo is one of the most beautiful in Nepal. Today, you will continue your journey from Jhinu Danda, passing through a stunning forest of oak and rhododendron. As you cross the Chomrong Khola, you will be treated to breathtaking views of Annapurna South, Hiunchuli, Machhapuchhre, Gangapurna, and more. You will then ascend gently under the towering presence of Annapurna to the charming village of Chomrong.

From Chomrong, you will climb a stone staircase, cross the Chomrong Khola suspension bridge, and ascend to the picturesque town of Sinuwa, where we will stop for lunch.

After Sinuwa, you will enter the Modi Khola valley and walk through a lush forest of oak and rhododendron to reach Khuldighar. A long, steep set of stone steps will then bring you to the Bamboo village, nestled in a dense grove of rhododendron and bamboo. The trek to Bamboo takes approximately 5 to 7 hours, depending on your walking speed and fitness level. Spend the night in Bamboo.
Day 5

After breakfast, you'll set out just before 8 AM for a gradual walk to Deurali. The initial part of the trek takes you through a damp and chilly bamboo forest. As the trail ascends steadily, you'll be rewarded with breathtaking views of the glacial river below. The climb becomes steeper through a drier forest before you reach Hinku Cave.

From Hinku Cave, the route descends closer to the river before ascending again to Deurali, offering some of the day's most picturesque scenery. The vegetation thins out along the trails, revealing stunning views of the river, the valley, and sheer rock faces adorned with wispy waterfalls. You'll cross several log bridges over tributaries along the way.

This section of the trail, from Hinku to Deurali, is particularly susceptible to avalanches, so caution is necessary. The upward climb is more challenging, making it essential to allow your body to acclimatize to the higher elevation.

Spend the night at a lodge in Deurali.
Day 6

After breakfast, we'll embark on our trek towards the main destination - Annapurna Base Camp. The journey continues with breathtaking views as we enter the sacred Annapurna Sanctuary. Crossing a ridge, we ascend to an elevation of 3,700 meters (12,136 feet), reaching Machhapuchhre Base Camp, where we'll pause for lunch amidst stunning Himalayan vistas.

Leaving Machhapuchhre Base Camp behind, we'll continue our pleasant and leisurely stroll towards the base camp of the majestic Mt. Annapurna. Along the way, you'll notice the transition as communities and flora gradually disappear, giving way to the pristine landscape. From Machhapuchhre Base Camp, it takes approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes to 2 hours to reach Annapurna Base Camp.

Following the widened trail, we finally arrive at Annapurna Base Camp. Here, the cold glacier, the rugged moraine, and the magnificent 360-degree mountain vista await us. Peaks like Annapurna I, Annapurna South, Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, Gangapurna, and others stand majestically, offering the ultimate reward for our trek. We'll spend the night at a lodge at Annapurna Base Camp.
Day 7

Today, an early wake-up call is essential to witness the breathtaking sunrise over the Himalayas. Observing the first rays of sunlight illuminate the snow-covered peaks is a truly mesmerizing experience. After soaking in this stunning view at Annapurna Base Camp (ABC), we'll enjoy breakfast before beginning our journey back.

We'll retrace our steps along the same route towards Bamboo, descending through trails that offer ease of walking. Descending to lower elevations brings relief, warmth, and a renewed appetite. Along the way, we'll pass through Machhapuchhre (Fishtail) Base Camp, Deurali, and Himalaya. Upon reaching Bamboo, we'll spend the night at a lodge.
Day 8

As we depart from Bamboo in the morning, we embark on a short climb to Chomrong, passing through the charming Sinuwa Village (2320m) along the way. Nestled within the Annapurna Conservation Area, Chomrong is a picturesque rural town situated to the south of the Annapurna Himalaya. It's a popular stop for trekkers in the region, offering stunning views of Machhapuchhre, Hiunchuli, and Annapurna South.

In Chomrong, you can indulge in some delightful experiences. Whether it's visiting a small bakery for a taste of real coffee, engaging in a game of snooker, or exploring a local bookstore, there's something for everyone. After a fulfilling day, we'll spend the night at a lodge in Chomrong.
Day 9

Day 9 begins with a hearty breakfast as we set off for our next destination, the picturesque village of Ghandruk. The journey unfolds through lush paddy fields, offering breathtaking rural scenery and insights into the Nepalese way of life. It takes approximately 5 to 6 hours to reach Ghandruk via Kimrong Danda, a scenic ridge along the route.

Throughout the trek, you'll be treated to stunning views of snow-capped mountains and have opportunities for cultural interactions, experiencing the warm hospitality of the Gurung ethnic community. Ghandruk is renowned as the largest Gurung village in the Annapurna region, boasting numerous restaurants, shops, and lodges.

While in Ghandruk, you may visit the Gurung museum to learn about Gurung history and the local way of life. After a fulfilling day of exploration, we'll spend the night at a lodge in Ghandruk.
Day 10

Today marks the final day of our trek. We'll begin by following the route from Ghandruk to Birethanti (1025m), then onward to Nayapul before finally reaching Pokhara.
