Overview

Mera Peak, situated in the remote Hinku Valley in the eastern Himalayas of Nepal, is widely recognized as the highest trekking peak in Nepal. The mountain boasts three distinct summits: Mera North (6,476m/21,217 ft.), Mera Central (6,461m/21,198 ft.), and Mera South (6,065m/19,898 ft.). Among these, Mera North is considered the true summit, although it is seldom climbed. The official height recognized by the Department of Tourism in Nepal is 6,470 meters.

The trail to Mera Peak offers a mesmerizing journey, passing through lush green forests of lower Solukhumbu to high glacial lakes and valleys. Along the way, trekkers can enjoy comfortable accommodations and delicious food at tea houses up to Khare, the final base camp before the ascent. Mera Peak's moderate technical difficulty makes it an excellent choice for acclimatization and an ideal introduction to Himalayan mountaineering for beginners.

The best time for climbing Mera Peak is during the pre-monsoon (spring) season from March to May and the post-monsoon (autumn) season from September to November. These periods typically offer stable weather conditions, clear skies, and favorable climbing conditions, making it ideal for a successful ascent of Mera Peak. It is important to note that weather conditions can vary, so it is always recommended to consult with local authorities and experienced guides for the most up-to-date information and recommendations.

Expedition costs are subject to variability based on numerous factors, including group size, royalty and permit expenses according to different seasons, hotel accommodation standards, Sherpa allocation, equipment provisions, type of arrangement, and customization of the package. For accurate cost estimates, we recommend discussing your preferences with our team at The Summit Force. Please feel free to contact us with any inquiries regarding your chosen expedition package.

It will be a scenic drive through the various villages inhabited by diverse Nepalese ethnic people, and hills, enjoying the scenic mountain view. Till now this road has been recently introduced and has access only up to Kharikhola. You will enjoy the drive via Ringmo village and across the alpine forest to reach Nunthala village, with a wonderful view of Numbur Himal on the side. Driving alongside the Dudh Koshi River, you will cross Jubing village and finally reach the larger Magar settlement area at Kharikhola.
Day 5

Today is the alternative trekking route that we follow to Panggom. We turn away from the Everest Trail and head in a south-easterly direction, moving a straightforward and at times zig-zagging trail that gains elevation steadily and takes us close to Lenjikharka. We walk uphill from there enjoying the views of Buddhist Chortens and forest. As we proceed to higher elevations, we see different mountain views during the trek. Ultimately, we reach our overnight stay at Panggom village (2900m). The inhabitants of Panggom village rely on farming and trading. The trekking journey is extremely rich in natural beauty and even more gorgeous by the Himalayan scenery.
Day 6

After leaving Panggom, we will cross the Panggom La Pass, and ascend on a steady path. While going over the Pass, you will come across many Mani Walls which are made of Stones engraved with Tibetan Buddhist Prayers. This section of the trek is challenging but offers beautiful views. Turning north, we will cross the Peseng Kharka Khola ( stream) at the beginning and after walking for some time, we will reach the Peseng Kharka Danda. Further on out, we will cross the Ningsow Khola before arriving at the Ningsow Village.
Day 7

The trail from Ningsow starts with the most beautiful rhododendron forest in the entire trek. We continue walking from Ningsow village, first steeply and then downhill for a bit. Then, we keep going uphill till we get to Ramailo Danda, which provides amazing views of Mera Peak and Salpa. After ascending and descending the trail, we enter the Makalu Barun National Park. While trekking, if you are lucky you may even come across the elusive Red Panda. Keep going and follow the Pasang Lhamu trail until you reach Chhatra Khola where you will spend a night at lodge
Day 8

On day eight you will begin your trek towards Kothe following the green forest and steep downhill path. Then you will follow the straight trail on the bank of the Hinku River. After some time, you will reach Tashing Ongma where you will find many tea shops. Here you can take a rest for a while and try some delicious herbal tea. From Tashing Ongma, you will continue trekking until you reach Kothe. It is a short distance. Again, the trail will offer beautiful sceneries and you will go through forested areas.
Day 9

Hinku River towards Gondishung, located right below the highest peak of Mera. Here your guide advises you for lunch.
After having lunch, you will visit Lungsumgba Gompa, which is more than 200-year-old Buddhist monastery in Nepal. Here your guide will advise you to pray and light a lamp inside the monastery to get the blessing and make your trek successful. On your way to Thangnak, you will find one of the best trails for trekking, and the trail is also quite easy to walk. While trekking, you will get a once-in-a-lifetime experience of scenic beauty around you.
Day 10

Today you will head out for Khare walking through steep hills and glacier-filled slippery paths. So, you have to be very careful. You will have a unique experience on the trek, unlike any other adventure journey in Nepal. You will trek along a few steps of the slippery path, and cross some mountain passes before entering into the Makalu Barun National Park – home to several alpine and sub-alpine species and plants.
Day 11

Today at Khare our climbing expert gives you pre-climb training about climbing techniques and how to summit Mera Peak successfully. Khare is the acclimatization stoppage for every Mera Peak climber. Located over 5,000m of elevation, Khare is an amazing place to spend a day.
Khare is surrounded by various peaks, and the scenery near the village is quite breathtaking. You will spend this day apart from the regular trail exploring Khare and immersing in the stunning views of Mera La.
You will also be allowed to practice ice climbing, but it depends on the time of year you trek. If ice-climbing is not possible due to less accumulation of ice or no ice at all on the spot, then it will be replaced by a side trip to Glacier. You will also learn gear-using techniques for a few hours. After a side trip and gear-using technique, you will return to Camp at Khare where you will stay overnight.
Day 12

On the third day, we will gently ascend in the direction of the Mera High Camp, located at an elevation of 5,780 meters. After leaving Khare behind you will be heading towards Mera Base Camp during the first part of the trek. Then, you will cross the Mera La Pass, the first snow and ice segment of the Mera Peak climbing expedition and keep going along the glacial segments toward the Mera Base Camp.
The journey to the High Camp won't be that long; it will only take around 4 to 5 hours. At the base camp, you will begin your climbing expedition on Mera Peak heading toward the high camp. You will make a gradual ascent toward the Mera High Camp. Our expedition crew will set up camps at the Mera High Camp for the overnight stay. While taking a rest at the Camps our crew will prepare warm and nutritious food for you. You can enjoy the breathtaking views of the Himalayas like Mt. Makalu, Mt. Cho Oyu, Mt. Everest, and a few other peaks. Next morning you have to wake up early and start Mera Peak Climb.
Day 13-14

Today is the summit day of the Mera Peak expedition. After being well equipped with all your mountaineering gear, you will begin your summit push early in the morning to reach the top before noon. Led by a professional Sherpa guide, you must closely follow his footsteps to ensure a successful ascent. Summit Force has arranged for a comfortable climbing experience, so there is no need to worry about logistics and all other necessary things.

It generally takes around 5-6 hours to reach the summit of Mera Peak from the Mera High Camp. Upon reaching the top, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of Ama Dablam, Nuptse, Everest, Makalu, Lhotse, Cho Oyu, Kanchenjunga, and other towering peaks. After soaking in the moment and capturing memorable photographs, you will begin your descent towards Khare.

Once back at Khare, you can celebrate your victory at a cozy lodge, reflecting on the day's exhilarating adventure.

Day 14 is kept as a reserve/contingency day in case of any delays or unforeseen circumstances, such as high-altitude climatic conditions or unstable weather. While the expedition is planned during the peak climbing seasons of spring and autumn, weather can be unpredictable in the mountains. If everything progresses smoothly according to plan, you will have the opportunity to make the summit push and achieve success on this incredible journey.
Day 15

Today after a successful summit of Mera Peak, we will follow the descending trail from Khare to Kothe. The beautiful trail passes through incredible routes making some ascents before descending for a few hours to arrive at Kothe village.
After walking through the beautiful terrains for 4-5 hours, we will reach our today’s destination in the late afternoon. On arrival at Kothe, we will take a rest and stay overnight at the teahouse. In the teahouse, you will meet some fellow trekkers and spend your time with them being socialized.
Day 16

After spending a night in Kothe, you will embark on your way back to Thuli Kharka. Today will be the most difficult day of the trek as you will gain altitude instead of descending, and cross several tributaries of the Inkhu Khola before reaching a split trail near Taktho. You will make plenty of uphill climbs through the Hinku Valley. When you leave Kothe, you will be walking for 5 to 6 hours passing through the unearthly Hinku Valley. Thuli Kharka is located right on the hill that ends the Hinku Valley. You will reach Thuli Kharka twice out of the valley during the trek. You will pass by a Chorten and after that, you will walk downhill on a steep trail. Again, on the way you will pass by another Chorten. After 5 to 6 hours of trekking, you will finally reach Thuli Kharka and take a rest in the lodge.
Day 17

After leaving Thuli Kharla, we will head out to Lukla via Zatrwa La Pass (4,600m). On this sector of the trek, we will walk through the dense forests, and the beautiful terrains of the Himalayan region and finally arrive at Lukla. The route is challenging including the Zatrwa La Pass (4610 meters). The view of the Hinku Valley, Numbur Himal, Kongde, Dudh Kunda from the Zatrwa La Pass is amazing. After check- in a lodge at Lukla, you will spend the night there. We have to be careful while following the downward trail. On arrival at Lukla, you will enjoy a hot shower and a delicious meal.
In the evening, you will have a small party to celebrate the success of your trip. Our local crew will join you and make your last evening most memorable in the mountains.
